  • 90 series and 120 series Rear diff, differences??

ok so i have somehow worn the bearing race surface of my rear axles to the point where i cant put new bearings on because they are undersize. so long story short, i need new axles! not cheap from Toyota so id rather go aftermarket which are slightly cheaper and supposedly better chrome molly. ive been thinking Nitro shafts, the don't however make/list a set for the 90 series but do list for 120 and 150 series. both there listings state that they are 30 spline shafts which i know is the same as what i have but i need to know if anyone knows if i can use the 120 or 150 series shafts in my diff, and what are the differences if any. i would hope that they'd be mostly the same as the 90....

How much wear are you talking about? There are ways to make up the difference...

a fair bit, definitely not able to fix the bearing face because its fretted and has a decent lip from where the bearing ran. how do you suppose i could fix the shafts? the only way is to be able to add more material and then re grind the surface but that would probably be just as costly as new shafts from toyota!

So the inner bearing race has spun on the axle?

Loctite do a liquid bearing fit for this if it's not too bad, I think it's Loctite 609 we have used with success at work before for minor damage.

If it is worse than this there are some engineering shops that can "spray weld" to build up surfaces for this reason, maybe try that.

I'm not 100% clued up on 90's, but is their rear diff the same width as a Hilux, I'm thinking the 97-04 Hilux would be the best shot. Maybe the axles are the same for it? If not try a wreckers?
