Does it vary with the fan speed selected as I think the blower fan unit is down there....

No it doesn't. It's constant no matter what the fan speed. It's wierd. At first I was concerned it was an electrical fault and I was worried about a fire starting. But then I thought if it was that, then it most likely wouldn't work period.

Sounds like you might have to get under there with a torch...

Failing that you may be able to feel for the noise.....

Re: Vibrations & grinding noise when parking car.

Mine has started with the vibration but no noise.

I took it into the mechanic who told me his Prado did it as well.

He has recommended adding something to the diff oil, I presume to thicken it up.

I'll give an update after it goes in next week.

Mechanic added an LSD additive and its stopped the problem.

And true to my luck, the week after that was fixed another problem crept up. Now when I turn my air-con on there is a very audible clicking sound coming from underneath the glove box. I have no idea what it is. It only happens as soon as the air-con button is pushed in and the clicking sound happens once a second and won't go away until I switch the air-con off. It can't be a short in the wiring behind the dash or a blown fuse because the air-con still works when in use. But something underneath the glovebox starts clicking. I now haven't used it for days and won't until I get it looked at. Any suggestions as to what it might be a more than welcomed to help arm me with a bit of knowledge before I put it in the shop to get looked at and to save me from getting majorly over quoted.

                Hi Brett,

Did you ever find out what that clicking noise was???? i have it in mine, but since i only just got i i figured that it was normal..... almost sounds like a relay clicking on and off whilst the aircon is running, i also have an issue with my lights behind the centre cash with the aircon temp control etc no lights, and the left hand side and sometimes when i start the car, the lights on the righthand side dont work (behind the fan speed control until i turn the knob either left or right and then they work) its wierd...

                any advise???

                Cheers

my 120 / 6 speed /2005 prado had exactly the same symptoms as Brett's.Had tyres balanced and rotated + alignment this changed nothing. Next week took it to coffs toyata and was told it needed the rear diff oil changed. I had just changed all oils 4 weeks prior to see if that was a fix. ( rear diff oil was Castrol lsx 90 limited slip diff oil ). After a small chat and a few words I excepted there advice to change the oil again. $120 labour + $41 + gst =$177 later ( drained rear diff oil and re-filled with mobilube LS85W90 and carried out bedding in process rear diff appears to be normal ) What is bedding in ? they say it is doing 20 circles , I have never herd of this ( dummy ). to my surprise I have given this fix 4 weeks trial before this post . the problem has been solved I hope this can help others out.
