checking auto trans fluid levels

hi guys .
5 days ago i changed my auto fluid to CASTROL TRANSMAX Z
( Full synthetic DexronŽ III type automatic transmission fluid ) 80 bucks
i checked the fluid heaps of times now and this is what i get i dont know if it is right .

if i check when cold without starting the car the level sits way high
if i check by starting the car run the gear leaver tho all gears and back to park keep engine running it sits at cold level ( thats how haynes manaul says to )
then once i drive the car for 30 mins and check it sits at hot level .

is this right ?

before i did the fluid change i only checked it without starting the car and was always at cold level .

im going for a 3000km drive starting friday . am hoping to get it right

Hi 1st,
There are High and Low markers for both hot and cold measurements. If you are in the centre of each set of markers, then your level is okay.

The Hot measurement is supposed to be the more accurate indicator.

And it's perfectly normal for it to be too high before having moved the selector through the gears.
