  • High Beams Will Not Stay On

Ok, so many of you know, (well most hopefully) would know that when pushing the high beam leaver forwards the high beam lights stay on.

So many moons ago, for some strange unknown reason; when I push the high beam leaver forwards, the high beams will not stay on, despite the high beams working when pulling the leaver backwards.

I have checked every single fuse in both fuse boxes, looked for any lose cables.. nothing.

Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hi Easy Company,

Sounds like you have a fault in your steering column stork, the contacts that meet when you push the stork forward my not meet anymore. I have seen a second hand 90series steering column stork on ebay if you need to pick up a part. That sounds the most likely to me. Hope this helps Ianafloat

      Wow, that sounds expensive

Any estimation or remembrance of about how much the Steering Column Stork costs?

        Hi mate,
It was $88 dollars with a best offer option, if you go to eBay, type in prado 90 series is will come up in the list.

You should be able to check this out, if you can find which wire goes to the high beam stork and then earth that with a test light, the high beam should come on (i think), sorry for being a bit vague, I am only self taught on vehicle electrics but I can't see any other obvious reason.

Had an old holden with the same problem, took it to an auto sparky to sort it out and he recomended fitting a foot switch as being the best "budget" option.
Worked a treat and was cheap too.

            Cheers

Do they "not stay on" i.e. springs back to off position, or do the high beams not illuminate at all when you push the stalk forward?

For those interested, the part number for the headlight switch assembly/stalk is 84140‑26170

              http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_G_199...KQ_8401.8.html

ToyoDIY gives a price of $84, I'd suspect your local Toyota dealer to charge in excess of $100 for it.
