  • Auto Electrician Fixed Starter Motor and immediately Small Fuel Tank Not Engaging

I have a one owner GXL Petrol Prado (the diesel was not available when I bought it), it was one of the early shipments.

It only has 195,000 km on it, so I consider it run in now!!!

When I did the timing belt at I think 110,000km, I put new springs and shockers on it, which made it soft as an air suspension but also stopped the body roll and gave it very neutral handling. Also pushed it up an inch or so.

I am on my third set of tyres now, these ones are pretty new. I've had the front and rear rotors replaced too.

But about Christmas time, the starter motor became irregular. At first I thought it was batteries.

So a month ago, I had the starter motor change over - I know one can clean them etc but the auto electrician changed it over.

I did not drive it for several weeks, and when I did, when I switched tanks, the small tank did not engage. The green light did not come on. The green light does come on when you turn the key before starting though.

So I rang the auto electrician, and they said - we can change the fuel pump, we do them all the time. Book it in. But I said - you must have loosened a wire somewhere. Where is the fuse? Its too much of a co-incendence that when I drop it in its working, and when I get it back, its not.

So I am wondering, is there a way for me to trace the wiring? Is there a separate fuse for the small fuel tank pump? Or the switch for the fuel tank? Maybe the switch wiring for the fuel tank is not engaging ?

If there isn't a way for me to trace it, I think I'll take it to another auto electrician!

    Any advise would be appreciated!

Oh - and my map lights in the front don't work well now - any advice about changing that area would also be appreciated!

Have a look under the left side and you will see the connection to the pump. I once knocked the wires free and it would not work. Could be this simple.

      Thanks for a reply.

When you say left side, of the engine bay? I am wondering where the wires for the pump appear?

I reckon it would be wires loosened, but I do not know where to look! And the left side is not very precise for me I am afraid!
