  • Rear Fan

    Hi all,

Not sure if I am in right area, apologise if I am not. We have a 2000 Prado GXL with rear a/c. The front works fine but when you hit the rear fan nothing happens and no air is coming out of the vents, hot or cold. I looked at all the fuses and they seem to be ok. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. No, no lights on it, doesn't look like it does anything.

Try pulling the rear control panel off (the one on the back of the centre console), as you may find the switch connection has come apart, if so just put it back together. It is a two way switch linkage, so if one is not connected, both switches will not work.

I will give that a try thanks. The front is on when I try to turn the rear on. I've tried messing around with the rear controls but they do nothing. To me it still looks like a fuse. Maybe one is missing. Everything to do with A/C looked to have a fuse in it and it was ok. Do you know which one is for the rear? You guys are so helpful!

There's a square grey electrical plug behind the front console in the passenger Side... This is where the rear AC controls plug into. It might have been bumped

                    Hi,

This is going to sound crazy but I only just remembered I had posted on here about this problem. I came back to check to see other solutions and checked the grey plug in front console and it as fine too. So I decided to investigate by pulling the front console cover off and checking the drivers rear fan button as it does nothing either. Took a little bit of figuring out on pulling it apart but I did it eventually. Found a plug connected to the blanking plate of a not included feature. Thought that a plug shouldn't be plugged into nothing so checked it out, and it found that the drivers rear fan button had nothing in it and the plug from the blanking plate fit perfectly. Tried my luck (maybe stupid?) and plugged it in. Turned on car and it's going good from either drivers or rear passengers buttons. The rear passenger settings for fan speed and temp all are going too. Thanks for help! Side note: it's surprisingly easy to type a conversation out on the keyboard even though the double-you (phonetic spelling) key isn't functioning

Also just thinking about changing the stereo, do any of those cheap chinese ones fit this model at all? Not looking to spend too much money on this old thing?

                    Thanks.
