perhaps its an electronic compass and it tells you what direction you are heading... and it always reading north now?

... this is the most confusing (and amusing) post I have read. Why on earth would a compass always point north? They are supposed to point where you want to go right?

Reminds me of my better half yelling out last minute navigational instructions like " NO, THE OTHER LEFT"

Some of the electronic compass(like in the portable gps) have a setting to toggle, either point north or follow the vehicle. May be the compass is stuck to north.

The OP is now MIA. I guess we were too late (by 3 years) to help him find his way.

The order of threads has been re shuffled on the forum, which is why this thread re surfaced after 3 years. I wonder if "Guest" has reached the North Pole from Dubai by now?

Maybe obvious, but a compass will always point to magnetic North (provided it is free of magnetic interference), and the display will show the direction of travel relative to magnetic North.

The compass in the 90 series, it has 2 settings.
One shows north as fixed and the pic behind it moves, and the other shows the direction you are travelling...
If that makes sense. It's confusing me trying to explain it anyway.

Ohhhhhhh. now I know what the problem is. Its a simple button to press on the screen.

Will someone with a shovel and a few spare months in dubai go looking for the original poster dude. You may need to take some water and a few biscuits. Just set your compass directional thingy to north. You will run over him eventually. PS, take a jacket and a passport, he may have got a fair way by now and the further you go the colder it gets lolol.

Mods, can we close this thread so no-one calls the dubai equivelent of the RAA/RAC/RACV/etc
