  • Auxillary Radio Input

    Hi there,

I am seeking information or wiring diagram for my 97 RV6 for radio auxillary input.

I want to feed my fire brigade scanner into the radio circuit and control it through the radio controls and listen to it through the car speakers.

Has anyone done this or know if the original Toyota radio casette player (1997) has an auxillary input line that can be taped into ?

    G'Day 97RV6,

Wondering if you had any luck in regards to installing an auxillary input socket to your am/fm radio. I'm keen to do similar for MP3 player. Any clues or advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers, Dave.

      Re: Auxillary Radio Input

      Gday Fellas,

For a couple of months now I've been contemplating replacing my factory fitted toyota stereo with a cheap stereo that has an aux input... just so I can play my ipod thru the speakers etc. Anyway checked out prices (of pretty cheap units) and a decent unit is anywhere close to the 200 buck mark. Yes there are cheaper ones around 100 bucks but IMHO look nasty compared to the factory unit. So I got onto Google and found a rundown of someone who has hard-wired an aux on their 2001 corolla, basically hacking into the audio wires that run from the CD stacker to the head unit.

      http://www.mattgilbert.net/carstereoauxinput/

The rear of the head unit in my 2000 prado 90 is pretty much the same as the corolla as illustrated in the link above. The wires are different colours but position and number of wires is the same. So, so far so good. I've cut the wires and have actually got the ipod to work.... now just need to solder all the wires up and fit a switch.... which will naturally involve much cursing and downing of beers.

      Cheers
      Scott

For anyone that needs to do something similar... all done! Work's a treat! Best thing is saved over a hundred bucks and learnt how to solder. Cheers Scott

          Re: Auxillary Radio Input

Ah ha! Finally found a possible solution...I think. I'm about to set up a netbook / GPS set up in the Prado, and seeing as how I'll have a PC in the car I want to use it for music as well...but how to get it into the standard radio system? If I had an Aux-In socket I would have fitted a Bluetooth receiver (PC has BT) but this may work from the CD plug (No CD unit fitted) You'd think that the "CD" button on the front of the radio should be able to work as the toggle....
I'll have to think about this.
