Cruise control not working

My 3.4L Manual has a problem with the cruise control.
The unit turns on fine but when i go to set the speed, it doesn't engage.
I believe that there are a number of sensors to disengage the system such as the clutch and brake pedals although haven't managed to locate the sensors.
I was wondering if anyone has had this problem or if anyone has a solution?

Hi Dan,

Check the contacts in the switch itself. I have had an issue similar in a previous car. You'll have to remove the steering column cover to get at the contacts.

My uncle has a 90 gxl and it has the same issue.

a blown tail light or a switchover to led tail lights will cause the cruise not to engage

He hasn't changed his lights to led.
All the brake lights are operational
He hasn't done anything to the car except put lpg on it 4 years ago
cruise light illuminates on dash but cruise wont engage at any speed

Mine used to pop out of cruse when I hit a bump, if I pulled the brake pedal towards me it would stop this happening. One sensor must be on the brake light switch, not sure where the clutch one is but I'd put money on this being your fault if the brake light is working as intended.

there should be a switch on the clutch pedal itself. Similar setup to the brake switch. Common fault.

Also was told it was caused by low fluid level in brake cylinder.
