Central Locking Problems

Hi,
I have a problem with the central locking on my 2001 TX prado. A few weeks ago this problem appeared, when i push the button on my remote to open and close the doors everything opens and closes except for the drivers door. If i put the key into the drivers door lock to un-lock it, it un-locks the drivers door aswell as all the others. I was thinking it may be the solenoid/module in the drivers door which is incorporated in the door latch/catch so i removed the door trim to gain access to both wiring plugs to test the unit i was looking at buying from the wreckers for the ripe price of $125. Still no good. Im running out of ideas so hopefully someone out there might have some ideas. Cheers

Check the condition of your car battery.

This happened to my 98 GXL and to my wife's 99 Camry - both with factory central locking. The vehicle battery was on it's way out. Replaced the battery and door locking worked fine.

Hi bushbasher,

You never know till you try so ill hook up our "thumper" battery pack at work tomorrow and see if it makes any difference. I am 99% sure my battery is fine as ive checked the charging voltage and battery voltage not so long ago and i also leave the engle going over night with out any problems starting the next day. Will let you know how i go, willing to try anything. Also, if any one has a wiring diagram handy they could email me mainly showing the central locking system that would be much appreciated, then i might have a play on the weekend to see whats going on. Any input is much appreciated, thanks

I personaly would not consider anything electrical from a wrecker . Yours may have failed so how much life is in the second hand part ?

Hi all,
I have eliminated the vehicle battery as the cause as suggested. I hooked up our "thumper" jump pack and still same result. I also disconnected the battery for a while on the off chance it may reset something. Stll no good, time to start probing around with the multimeter to see whats going on i think

Does the drivers door lock/unlock when you use the key from another door.
If it doesn't then I suspect it may either be the drive motor (or what ever it is that moves the lock mech) for the drivers lock or wiring between central locking and drivers door.
if it does then perhaps it has something to do with the remote receiver unit which is located under the passenger kick panel
