Remote Receiver Module (Keyless Entry)

I purchased a S/H Prado VX Grande 99 model nearly a year ago. ( very happy with it both on and off road) For some bizarre reason it doesn’t have keyless entry even though this is apparently standard for the Grande model.
Anyway after getting the Gregory’s handbook (according to this I am an early model wiring system of the Prado 90 series) and a bit of sleuthing around under the dash I have found the following.
On the left hand side of the car under the glove box and fan unit, behind the kick panel near ones left foot when sitting in the passenger seat, there should be a remote receiver module. (For those who have cruise control this is where that is too.) I think I have located the plug for the unit and I just want to confirm what others have so I can then…
A) Go and buy a Remote Receiver Module from Toyota or
B) Maybe someone knows of where I can get a second hand part.

The pin out when looking at the socket end is as I have, is below for my vehicle.

2 rows with of 7 pin outs
top row I have numbered 1 to 7, left to right
bottom row I have numbered 8 to 14, left to right (10 and 11 were not used)

1 Yellow
2 Red green
3 Blue White
4 Blue Yellow
5 Green Yellow
6 White Black
7 White

8 Green Black
9 White
10 Not used
11 Not used
12 Blue
13 Black Red
14 White Red

I have found that this socket…
White Black is ground (6)
White Red is +12v supply through ECU-B fuse (14)
Blue White is the lock side of the door switch (3)
Blue Yellow is the unlock side of the door switch (4)

(I would like to provide a picture in this post as it wold be so much easier.. Hmm how does one do that in this forum?)

So if you have something similar, part numbers of the remote receiver module you have, would be just great.

Suggestion: if you haven't had any luck with this, perhaps a trip to the Toyota dealer parts & service. Ask them to look up the part # on thier computer, and find out $. If you can go around the middle of a weekday it's generally quiet in the parts&service section. Ask the service section for cost to retrofit and what bits are needed (eg. keys!). Then get the parts list from a wrecker if too expensive.

I installed Rightclick KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM (V22) while ago. It was very simple to do, and cheap also (under 50 €).

Just connect two wires to wires which are connected in the box behind the kick panel. It was at driver´s side in my car (left hand steering). And if you want to connect signal lamps to flash, connect two wires more (those are located under the box). Plus of course: +12V and earth.

I also removed 4 wires, which are useless, to make it simple look.

The harder part was to get the immobilizer to work. I have copy (with transmitter) made of the old key. The transmitter is a capsule which is removable. I found just enough space for it after taking a little slide of the battery holder.

It is a very presice spot where is works fine, if it´s 1 mm off side, the car won´t start. I had to try it many times until it works well in both key position.

I put some sticky tape on the capsule to prevent moving.


The new key look like an original Toyota key (which is equipped with keyless entry), but it´s blue.


I wanted to get it to the key, this made it harder. If you use it only as key-end (the key is removable), you don´t have those difficulties with the transmitter relocation because you use your original key.
