ECT Power Light glowing randomly

Hi Guys

I have done a search for the following Issue I am having with my prado but to no avail and am hoping one of you guys knows what it is.

I have a 2001 TD 90 Series prado auto (which after 3 pajeros I am loving the coil front suspension!), on my way to work there is a hill and then a roundabout, as I go around the roundabout the "ECT Power Light" flickers dimly and then continues to do so for about the next 5 minutes.

I have been told this could be anything from a dashboard fault to a transmission fault, I have had the auto serviced and will be checking the alternator this weekend however I am wondering if anyone has seen this before I take it to the auto elec? Is this light linked to a transmission fault or will it just be a problem behind that dash that i can ignore?

It could also be the switch, pull the switch out and give it a good clean, if you can get inside the switch even better, could be dirt and dust in the switch causing the problem.

From memory you can unplug the switch thus eliminating it completely whilst you test.....

I find the concept of the ECT switch on the Diesel a bit odd anyway since the best acceleration if not found by holding it in gear longer.....however that discussion is for another thread. (D4D may be different...)

I agree the switch is useless as it pulls much harder between 2-3K. I will pull the switch out when i test it tomorrow.
