  • 1KZ Mechanic Wanted - Sydney

Apologies if there's already a thread on this - I did a search but found nothing...

    WANTED: GOOD/RECOMMENDED 1KZ MECHANIC
    LOCATION: SYDNEY/NEWCASTLE/WOLLONGONG/ETC

Considering my 1KZ is approaching the dreaded 200k mark (i.e. cracked head), I'm looking for a good/recommended mechanic to carry out a thorough inspection and/or engine rebuild. Can anyone recommend anyone?

I'm planning to do the Canning Stock Route next year, hence my concern.

    Cheers in advance,

    Justin

Can I recommend McCloy Automotive in North Richmond. Mechanic Michael is the gun guy... Phone 0245 714444.

Was with me and a team on a Simpson desert trip last week. Cannot speak more highly of his skills.

Update your profile with your location and you might get some results closer to your home.

Sydney City Diesel has done work on my 1KZ.
Results ok but I had to tell them what to do as they seem to lack any initiative.
Sort of like going to the doctor and saying 'please change my liver, its stuffed'.

West End Diesel has been highly recommended and have been very helpfull on the phone although I haven't had them do any work yet.

Awesome, cheers for the suggestions hux22 and MalcomM.

I've also been suggested to try out JC Diesel in Narellan - the truck is heading to them next week for a service anyway, so I'll have a chat to them then.

        Have a fantastic Easter!

Scott Doney, http://www.startlocal.com.au/auto/me...os_618843.html or Jason at http://www.totalcare4wd.com.au/ Ive had work done by both of these guys. Scott is closer to home for me now. He isn't cheap but I know I can drive away knowing its all done correctly and he doesn't bullshit. Even when he's checked my neighbours 06 DID pajero or his commodore when he services it he would be the only bloke I know who has written on the report that the glove box globe is not working !!! wouldn't be to many mechanics I know of who would pick this. Why you rebuilding ?? will cost you upto 10k. If they crack its normally under 200k, average seems to be around the 170k mine went at 103k well serviced and all genuine parts. They are hard to determine if cracked. Mine only showed up when pushing it at 110k down freeway, I could have driven around town all day and never would have picked it. It pressurized pushing the coolant into over flow bottle then when that filled up obviously then it spewed onto the ground. Cost me 4k to fix, not sure if this is dear or not but between these two mechanics I wouldn't let anyone else touch it except for my mate but he doesn't have the facilities at home to do big jobs like this, he worked for Toyota for over 20 years and was there tech guy (finding faults) he was the one who diagnosed my prado. He had to take a chance by going down the freeway doing 110/120, pull up quickly then wack his gadget onto the radiator opening to detect the exhaust gasses, if he did this at around town speeds it wouldn't show up. Also there was no movement on temp guage at all. Sat just under half like it always did. Prior to my mate finding it I had replaced thermostat (prick of a job), cap, coolant, viscous coupling, had radiator prodded/probed all ok. I new deep down what it was just wanted 100% confirmation of what it was before I spent the $$$. My other mate has over 350k on his now and never had a single issue with the old girl. I think its luck of the draw with these engines either in the lux or the prados. I havn't heard of any issues in the 120's, bigger cooling systems apparently in the 120's and a couple of other things apparently. Cheers Steve
