I've been noticing this recently, the Prado seems to be slow to accelerate when cold. Its not labouring in any way its as if the engine computer is limiting the amount of throttle input it will work with until it has warmed up a bit. I understand that the jackeroo was renowned for this but its purpose is to extend the life of the engine by not allowing too much load when cold.
Now the reason it has become more urgent, is that tonight after the car had been left for two days, it apparently reversed OK, but failed to accelerate at all in the forward direction. (Note that in reverse, only idle was required..). The engine revs did not rise at all.
After a short time, perhaps less than a minute it did start to respond to throttle input.
I have found that after running for perhaps 1 minute or so, almost normal throttle is available & after two full throttle & power is available as we have a moderate hill we need to climb each morning & it goes up there at much the same speed as if the engine was warm.
We have had the car for 4 years & this is the first year I have noticed this in winter.
Cheers
