  • 1KZ Compression Test Figures?

    Hi all,

    I am after the specs for a 1KZ compression test. Anyone got the numbers? I have searched until my eyes were bleeding in 120 and 90 series with no luck so apologies if this has been covered before. Also anyone got any specs for boost pressures?

    Mine has traveled 230k+ now so just looking to give her a birthday with new glow plugs, reco injectors, throttle body/intake manifold scrub up and a thorough medical.

      Thanks for that link Fishfinder. That site gave me heaps of info re: clearances etc however no compression pressures were listed. Anyone got anything else they can throw my way?

        This should give you all you need, although these are from the 120 service manual they should be relevant to a 90.

            they use to have more details on them including compression back in the days i opened perth branch up - sorry I did not look at the new ones

              In Brisbane I would strongly recommend Rocklea Diesel as for parts
              sounds like a free plug there ##########. :lol: cheers samo
              had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

                  In Brisbane I would strongly recommend Rocklea Diesel as for parts above. Most Aust. plated vehicles from 2000 are $350.00 a set. Don't forget to take out your old injectors before you go, exchange.

                  Hi prado fellas, i have done a compression test on my 1kz, and all 4 cylinders gave 3,000 and bit more Kpa's in the test. i want to know if this is an "ok" number. My problem is when the engine is cold in the morning, it is hard to start. i have taken it to many mechanics some have said the engine is loosing compression, others say the engine is loosing abit of compression but not "so much" to make the engine so hard to start when cold. but i have not seen any sign of cracked head or engine knocks so far. no coolant consume, no oil consume, no high fuel consume, no weird engine noise, we have checked the glow plugs, the fuel pump, i do have noticed abit of power loss though. the only sigh it is giving me is the cold start startup and i know this is a common symptom of low compression, but then why did i get 3,000kpa on the test. should i discart the compression? what do you guys suggest me


                  also If i try to start it with 2 batteries with high Amp on series (connected) its starts right on

                  If i open the engine oil cap while the engine is on, you can see some white air coming out, the mechanics say it is compression. but "not so much"...

                      Sounds like the way my starter motor started playing up.
                      I did a write up in black vx's thread about hard starting..
                      HERS - KZJ120, BILSTIEN / KINGS, AMTS GEAR, RHINO GEAR, OUTBACK DRAWERS ETC ETC ETC
                      MINE - HDJ78 RV TROOPY. 1HDFTE. TWIN FACTORY LOCKERS. STEINBAUER POWER. OME LIFT. BEAST.

                        If the plugs are more than 100k km old I would change them as they are due anyway and see if that improved it. The starters are usually pretty bulletproof, the first thing that usually goes intermittent is the contactors. There are tutorials around on how to clean up and/or change them. Total km's on the engine would be useful info, but by the look of those pressures I would not be too worried.
