  • 97 VX Grande Duel Fuel Tanks Problem

    My question is that are main and sub fuel tank connected each other? Cos I found my prado 97 VX Grande has odd problem. When I am running on the main tank, the sub tank fuel shown on the dash indicator is getting increasing gradually. For example, after I used full main tank, the fuel shown in the sub tank has increased 1/3 what a bugga! Eventually, I got the sense of losing fuel in the main tank. Cos I have calculated the petrol consumption hit 20 liters/100km. Can anyone tell me why?

    Hi bassmouse,
    If you read the Owners manual, it says that fuel will be transferred from the tank being used the other.

    I notice this in my 90. I think the fuel return line from the EFI rail will send fuel to the opposite tank it came from.

    I think there are a few members that have disabled this feature by swapping some hoses around on the fuel change over solenoids. I haven't investigated further than this because I'm not bothered by this characteristic. I change between my tanks all the time to keep both fuel pumps lubricated.

      Thanks Declan for Nice and quick reply. I read your txts carefully. If that is true, I think that would be handy design for many driver who driving for long trip. However, it does brings me headache. Cos how would I measure my fuel consumption? It would be very kind that you could show me a way ^^

        In addition, I found that it only happens when I am running on main tank. If I run on sub tank, the fuel would never goes to main tank...

          Hi bassmouse,
          The easiest way to measure fuel consumption is to fill both tanks and zero the trip meter.

          Then when you fill up again, fill both tanks.

          L/100Km = litres of petrol / (Kms driven / 100)
