  • Replacing Fuel line from tank to filter

Hi all, this is kinda following on from my other thread but really probably deserves its own title. After finding that the nut that tightens the fuel line to the fuel filter is quite rounded off and has been impossible to get loose even with vice grips, I ordered the rear fuel line assembly (which was cheaper than a mechanics labour to loosen the nut).

My mate and will attempt the swap on the weekend and are wondering if anyone else has done this and if there are any tricks or traps involved.

    Thanks everyone.

Hi, so we ended up doing the job no worries. I ordered the part from toyota which needed to come out of Japan, which probably says that this problem doesn't happen often which is suprising.... the part was a 1 foot bit of hose that had a plug on one end and the screw thread washer on the other (the end that went into the fuel filter). cost me $43 through the local dealership parts department (customer service was shocking......)

So I began by relieving the pressure in the lines by removing the fuel cap and disconnected the battery negative just in case. The thread on the engine side of the filter was fine so I undid it with ease and let a bucket catch the fuel that came out. Only about 200ml trickled out. Unbolted the fuel filter harness and let the filter hang down to get the last drops out.

I tracked the fuel line hosing on the other side (tank side) of the filter back to where it joined a Y join (obviously where the 2 tank lines meet before the fuel runs through the filter). At the join there was a round plastic holder that wrapped around the join which just popped off by pressing a couple of clips with a flathead screw driver. Once that was off I could see the green clip of the plug at the end of the fuel line going into the Y join that is on the part I got so I am immediately somewhat excited as the end is near...

The hose plug that goes into the Y-join just popped out by squeezing the green clip and pulling the hose....Success!!!

There were two detachable parts on the hose I got from toyota - the green clip that locks it into the Y-join, and a 4cm piece of plastic pipe that goes deep into the Y-join. I decided instead of taking apart the Y-join I would leave the existing pipe in the Yjoin but replace the green clip with the new one.

Reverse the steps and I was done. Had one false start while the fuel was pumped down the lines and through the new filter but started perfectly second time no worries. No leaks.

Judging by how dirty the filter was inside indicated that it probably hadn't been changed in a while (I bought it almost 10000km ago).

I wish I had photos guys but honestly it was easy as pie
