  • Check engine Light

Hey guys long time reader first time poster.

Have a 97 Prado Grande 3.4 v6, was iddling at 2000rpm in park and neutral so i cleaned the IAC valve, MAF and replaced the throttle position sensor. It has dropped the idle down to around 1100rpm but the check engine light is now on all the time. I have ordered and will replace the coolant temp sensor this evening (suggested by mechanic mate) wondering if anyone has had the same or similar issue and could shed some light on the subject for me? im hoping it is not the air flow meter as that is $1000 for a new part. I live in SA work in wingfield so if there is a good mechanic around the traps im more than happy to give it to them!

    Thank you in Advance.

I guess you've gone over all your work to check you haven't left a plug loose or off?

You can check the fault codes stored in the ECM easily enough.

This is for the 2RZ-FE engine but the procedure and codes are the same. Codes can be read the codes without a diagnostic tool via flashing the "Engine Check Light"

Just had the Prado scanned at a local tojo wrecker and it is coming up with code 33. from what I can gather this is the intake air control valve fault. I have changed the coolant temp sensor which made no change so looks like its $420 for a new IAC valve and an hour to put it in. Can anyone confirm code 33 is the intake air valve fault?

Hi. I posted all the fault codes and procedure here a couple of days ago.

            http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...428#post474428

Looks like its the idle speed control valve.

            Cheers, Ben.

Was this sensor buried down in the intake plenum somewhere ? Local dealer quoted me about 3 hours labour to check and replace this sensor........
