Can anyone help out with an affordable solution to replacing a Timing Belt and Water Pump for a Prado 5VZ-FE in North Brisbane / Caboolture? I have been quoted a price that seems a little expensive and would love to hear from anyone who can help or recommend somebody.

Sounds excessive, if you're mechanically minded you could do it yourself.

Hi guys I've changed Three timing belt on 3 different Prado's and it's not hard if you take it slow, and follow the steps. You don't need any special tooling either. Just remember to aline the timing marks before you start and note which way the cams jump when removing the old belt. It's away handy to have a spare pair of hands when reinstalling the new belt, you'll also need a G clamp to reset the tensioner, hope this helps

That price doesn't sound too bad. The parts are over $500 when i checked with repco about 3 months ago. Luckily I found a kit on ebay for about $320. I am mechanically minded and am in the middle of doing it myself. The max ellery service manual i bought seems to have the wrong method to put the belt on, and I have tried it 3 times now. I have since downloaded the toyota manual which tells you to line things up in a very different way. Hopefully I'll finally get it right now.2000 Prado RV V6, Steel Bullbar, factory towbar

When I had the water pump, timing belt, and radiator replaced on my 90 it was ~$2.5K all up. That included the cost of the 100K service as well but still it hurt. Then we went and traded the car in not long after and now the dealer is trying to capitalize on the work we paid for with the sticker price, mongrels!

uumm since this thread started in june 2008 I really hope the timing belt has been done
And it is also worth checking genuine for the parts as it cost me approx $350 for timing belt, tensioner, pulleys and water pump from Toyota which was less than Repco.

Thats right Lee, The prices of some things at Toyota are cheaper than after market, but it is the Labour they charge that kills you.97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.
