  • Good price for 01 RV6?

Hi guys newby to pradopoint but I just bought an 01 RV6 for 9 grand with 111k on the clock. Just wondering if this is a good buy and is there anything I should look out for? Also what is a good size tyre for this rig?

As long as your happy with that price, it is then a good price, 9K is not alot of money for a 4wd that has done only 111000k's.

One thing you must ensure that it has been done is the timing belt, this is a very big job and there is a kit available to replace it as well as the water pump, all of the oil seals (front of motor) and it also has a new T/Belt tensioner in it. Every service you should get the MAS sensor cleaned, you must use twin electrode sparkplugs (minimum), I use Iridium Quad electrode in mine, I have 265/75/16 MT tyres on mine which is about a 32" tyre in the old measure, but I think the RV6 has different diff gears, so it may not have as much punch if you fit tyres the same size, 1 thing I have noticed is for city driving use high octaine fuel (not E10) as you will get the best fuel consumption out of it that way, but on highway (like for long distance) use the E10 then as there is not much difference between it and normal high octaine in that situation.
With the fuel tanks, just remember that when you are using the main tank, the returned fuel (unused) will go to the sub tank, and vice versa, this keeps both sender units lubed.

You will be very happy with your Prado.

croozza has pretty much nailed it.

I insisted that the timing belt be done before I bought my rig as it can be an expensive exercise. The other points can be covered in your regular maintenance. I clean the MAS, check the plugs etc fairly regularly.

I too run 265/75/16's, but I have Goodyear Wrangler SA-A/T's as I have to do quite a bit of commuting in mine too and try to save on some fuel where possible. I am looking at getting 6 16x8 King Wheel rims (black) and putting some Maxxis or similar M/T's on them. I will keep them in the garage and change the wheels when I head bush (quick easy task when you have the tools). As for the diff gearing, I still have plenty of grunt on road with these shoes.

I also run a premium fuel. I try run 98 but if not available, I try to use a minimum of 95. This for me is just natural as it is what I've done with all my cars and bikes. You won't notice a huge change by switching to the premium fuel but in the long run it will be beneficial.

croozza covered the sender between the tanks, in addition to this, I try and use both tanks regularly. I will use the main twice then use the sub (just to keep the fuel from going stale). Then on the odd occasion I will run both takes right down (I don't do it often as it costs a bit to fill 2 tanks with 98  ).

As for you buy sounds good, don't go trying to compare with others, "did I get a bargan" or "did I get ripped off". In the end you bought what you could afford (as did I - though mine was essentially a swap lol), it is a great rig and you will be happy with it! Get out there and enjoy it.

Re: Good price for 01 RV6?

Thanks for the replies guys. The rig is like new inside and out which is pleasing but I only bought it due to now needing 3 baby seats which won't fit in my 04 SR5 hilux! Timing belt etc got done by Toyota dealer just before I got it. Cost$960 I was informed. Very happy with the rig but would like to open it up a bit more, maybe extractors and a new pipe? Any suggestions? Cheers again and happy 4x4ing!!!!!!!

Good to hear it was already done for you, in regards to the exhaust, go for pacemaker headers, with a 3 inch exhaust, mandrel bends too, if you have the coin you can go for a fully tuned custom exhaust, this will incorporate a dual exhaust which switches over so that the right hand side exits on the left and the left hand side exits on the right, this will allow the engine to breathe better and both sides of the exhaust pipe are the same length, so you will get a nice note as well.

I reckon $9k is a steal for what you get , esp with those km's. Compare it to what sort of hilux you can buy for example for similar money and you can see the value !

If anyone knows about any fender flares you can get for my RV6 or do I just get some off the GXL spare parts? Took it for a bush trip yesterday and must say that it's a bloody great bus for off roading! Can't wait till I get all the bits and pieces for it and go again! Cheers
