Hi Fellas. Saw an odd looking 90 in town today. Was in a dealers lot advertised as 1996 with 105,000 km on clock (yeah right). Jap import and badged TJ on tailgate. 5 speed with 1kz engine. No flares/body kit and real budget interior. 4 factory alloy wheels and a real skinny steel spare. Butt ugly. Dealer was asking $20,000 NZD for it! Have to be the ugliest Prado I have ever seen. Cheers.

    From wikipedia:

In Japan, the 3-door series started with an R in the series ranging from RZ, RX, RS to RJ while the 5-door line-up started with T in the series ranging from TZ, TX, TS, to TJ.
Did it look like this, but in 5 door size?

I think all 3-door 90s had those headlights to begin with, then with the revision of the 90 series (2000?) they started using the same headlights as the 5-door models.

I have the 97 commercial GL model with no flares, steel wheels but the interior is the same as the standard GX and VX (non-leather) Moondust?
I don't have airbags or chrome mirrors or the roof rails but thats about it.
Mechanically there is no rear diff lock and the diffs are a higher ratio 4.100 vs 4.300.
My headlights are the standard type, not those round ones.
AFAIK they were only on the JDM 90 series not the EMEA versions.

I have a RZJ90 2007 petrol pretty much the same as Bounder, but my diff gear ratios are 4.56, chrome mirrors, roof rails, leather seats.

Here in my country, the 95 series came in 2000 through 2006 and 90 series from 2005 to 2009.

I had the standart headlights but I change them for the round ones ( buy them in Japan ) . I'm the only 90 with that round lights in my country and I really liked a lot!

Check one of my favorites videos. A 90 with round ones:

Awesome flex an looks really mean!

            Cheers

That's the Fella. Drivers seat edge well worn. Probably add 100k to speedo reading. Side steps look like a dodgy repair using chequerplate alloy. About $7k too much IMHO. Most of the 1996's over here have the plastic vertical grille. This one has pretty much same front as my 2000 KZJ NZ new but bumper not colour coded. Havn't seen those decals on any others either. 1st one I've seen with the dicky mirror on bonnet. Body appears to be pretty tidy up close. Pretty ordinary really.

That is an ugly bugger! That year should have vertical bars in the grille, looks like someone has tried to dress it up a bit, they aren't factory alloys for the 90 series either, they might have come from something else.
The 5 spoke factory alloys have concave spokes not convex and they are 7" width.
Lots of things don't add up maybe it was a crash repair?

Thats a Jap import, looks like the grill has been changed for a later model one, (easy to do), the rims are after market ones from your local tyre place, the decals could have also been placed on by the previous owner, however the Japs do some strange things, so that could have been put there by the original dealer. The seat wear could be by the previous owner doing short regular trips, nothing that an upholsterer cant fix, I'm not sure what the going price for Prado's is in NZ but $20k seems a bit steep, thats equivelent to $17-$18K Aust, for a std vehicle, should be more like $12K Aust or $14K NZ.
97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.
