    96 Prado, fuel gauges dodgy

    Gooday folks
    New to this forum, I like your work, great site.
    My gauges are special, when one or both tanks full the gauges will sometimes read full or a few minutes later they will read empty, always interesting ifn you r out bush, thankfully the trip meter is working.
    Any ideas?

    Yo Turtle. I agree, the forum is one of the best I've seen.

    Not sure about your fuel gauges. Sounds like a wiring problem with an intermittent fault like that. Might even be the gauge itself in the tank. Does it only happen when your tanks are full?

      I also have a 96 Prado, and it has a similar problem, never had it looked at though because it happens only every now and then. Its annoying but after all these years we have learned to live with it and now see it as one of the quirky behaviours of or Prado.

        I had a simaler problem with my old FJ73, only happened when tank was full.
        I cant remember for sure, but I think it was a problem with the wire to ground from the gauge cluster. I thought I must have had a hole in the fuel tank the first time I noticed the needle go down.
