Hey Steve, You were pretty spot on, they only offered me $10K trade-in and I managed to get them up to $12.1K. I haven't agreed yet but they have given me the Kaka to play with overnight, they need to sell it as rego is up end of November. I'm torn over what to do, the Kaka is a sweet drive and already comes with bull bar, near-new BFG AT tyres, and an Icom IC440 radio. I haven't seen another one around at the price that already has all the gear I want on it. I could sell the 90 privately but I don't know how long it will take to sell. ARGH, decisions!

If your happy with the kaka, and as you said you wait around trying to sell yours, the kaka gets sold and you have to search for another one that will possibly be without a bar so there is 2k you have to out lay out of your 3k (if you get 15k selling privately) to get the bar !!!, approx $1500 for the bf's ?? and radio Im guessing $500 ?? theres nearly 4k you would have to outlay if you found another one without the gear.. I like how they give you the kaka to play with so you fall in love with it and take it anyway, fleet sales do the exact same thing lol good sales pitch.......In this sense I'd be taking it if it was me and it was really what I was after. It was a bit the same when I bought mine, (big difference in $$$'s) For the sake of $500 more then I wanted to spend trying to convince the minister of finance that the prado already has a bullbar fitted, where as if I was to search for another prado and it didnt have a bar but was the same selling price then I would have to outlay 2k for a bar so in the end she thought $500 extra was cheap lol. If you like it take it, there's not alot of them around for sale at the moment. Dont forget (as you probably know) do all the checks, even though its fairly new doesnt mean it doesnt have a dodgy background. Get a full history check make sure its not a repaiarable write off etc and you have the vehicle for the night, chase up the original owner from the log books, ring them, find out why they sold it and so on, Ive done it numerous times when buying.............Good Luck Cheers Steve

I've already done the PSR check and it came back as not stolen or written off and no encumbarance, cost me all of $3.50 LOL. Good point on the logbooks as the car is currently in the name of the dealer principal's missus (something to do with rebates they get for company execs driving the vehicle); will try and find out previous owner's details.

ETA: Just got a price on those tyres, $429 each fitted (advertised price was $490) at Jax. Now I'm going to find out what the bar is worth.

ETA: The TJM T13 Bar is worth $1950 fitted and the Icom with an aerial is $459 (not incl fitting, price from Prestige). So that's $4444 all up for the extras currently on the Kaka.

Fido, I would buy the kaka no trade and negotiate down the price based on that, if u want to off load the 90 quickly sell it for like 16-18k which would be a steal and u r still 4-6k in front. That's my 2 cents.

Hutch, I'm really torn because I can not find anything with the same sort of K's in Victoria to compare it to on CarSales. The closest I could find was a 2001 VX with 163,500K on the clock and they're asking $16,990 (private seller). Then there's another 2001 VX which a dealer is selling for $16,999, it has 189,160 on the clock.

If I sell privately I have to roadworthy it (windscreen would likely fail given its age) and the rego is up in December so I'm mindful of those extra costs too. There's slight panel damage just above one of the rear flares (suspect shopping trolley) and the guard itself is a bit loose there. I have no idea what that would cost to fix but anything involving painting a panel isn't cheap. Other than that the car is in good nick.

Found my old 95 series on the dealer's site today, they finally had pics and a video clip up :-

              http://www.csndealers.carsales.com.a...duleId=5232637

Almost made me sad I let it go but when I look at my 150 I'm not so sad anymore. I see they have tarted up the undercarriage with some spray paint but it was OK before that.

I wonder what they will end up actually getting for it?

Probably around the 17/17.5k I reckon. Its a good looking vehicle and with all the books and things it will sell easily enough if thats what people are looking for. Plenty of them trashed as well. Your better off not knowing as it will probably piss you off lol but that's what there in the game for, to make $$$. They technically don't have to give it warranty as its over 10 years old (depending on month of production date). Not sure about other states but here in NSW it either over ten years old and/or over 160k they don't have to give warranty but its some thing Im sure the dealer will give knowing the condition of the car. This will probably be their selling point ""sir you know we dont have to give you warranty but since we know this prado is in immpecable condition we will give you 3 months warranty, how does that sound ??? SOLD'' lol...........Cheers Steve

Yeah the 10 yr/160K warranty cut off applies in Vic too but they said "we like to give a warranty with any cars we sell". It's a late 2002 build first registered in Dec 2002. Not only did it have the service book, it had all the service invoices as well (all bar one I couldn't find). Given it's already had the water pump, timing belts, and radiator replaced it should be a pretty reliable buy.

Looks like my old Prado has sold already, it's gone from the dealer's site today. I haven't had any phone calls which is strange, I always ring the previous owner of any vehicle I purchase 2nd-hand.

It was on the lot at $19,990; have no idea what they actually got for it. Ah well, no use crying over spilt milk as they say.

I ended up selling my Prado privately after the dealer only offered me $5k trade in on a new FJ.
The good thing is I know the people that bought it so I still get to see it on trips etc. It was a good truck and I miss it :-(
That will only last until my 2013 FJ arrives in a couple of weeks :-D

So how much did you end up getting for it Birdman? Hopefully you and the buyer stay friends and they don't blame you if something breaks down the track. I have kept up communications with the previous owner of mine, we even met once, but we're not friends as such.

I got $10k for it which is what thought it was worth.
We were both happy with that price.

That's pretty good, I only got $2K more for mine as a trade-in which was 5 years younger.
