  • Towing Jayco Expanda On the Beach

    Hi

Anyone towed a Jayco Expanda outback (off road) version on the beach with a 90 series V6? They weigh about 1500kg. I am going to try it and upgrade the prado if it's no good. It won't be wild off roading, just the soft sand from the land to the hard sand at the waters edge and then back up to a campsite across the soft sand. Places like Stradbroke Island and Teewah Beach in South East Queenlsland. I've done a lot of beach driving with trailers.

When we were on Fraser Island about a month ago we passed 2 Jayco Expanda vans being towed on the hard sand who were heading home. They were both hire vans from Sydney! And neither was an offroad model. One was towed by a Bits-are-missing Pajero and the other was a Nissan 4x4 ute (Navara?).
They caught our ferry and we discussed stopping and watching them try to get from the ferry to Inskip Pt road on that lovely soft sand as we thought it'd be a fun way to finish our trip...
We didn't but I did see them at the complete car wash a couple of hours later.
    So anything is possible.

The best way to go from the ferry at inskip point back to the tar is to turn left off the ferry and follow the hard sand around the point. There is a much shorter drive across the soft sand about 500 meters down the beach.

Thanks for the tips. Looks like I'll have a fighting chance. I'll try to get my wife to film my first try, hopefully she won't have to put down the camera to dig me out.

It's doable as long as you time the tides right. I'd be taking a skid plate for the van and have a winch on the tow vehicle just in case.

          Check this guy out.

Lower your tyre pressures and the Prado will shit it in, it will do it easy
