Re: re: Dash rattle 2002 TX

No worries pambs! I put the screws right up against the windscreen in front of the airbags. Drivers side is behind the instrument binnacle. But I think the brackets are the biggest thing that make the difference like you said.
No idea about the frame sorry mate.

Re: re: Dash rattle 2002 TX

        Hi Frank,

I just made up my own square brackets and drilled a hole in three of the corners, one hole to attach to the cross beam and the other two to attach to the side of the dash. The passenger side took the longest time, I took out the glove box and then had to remove a couple of sections of the air con ducting before I could get to the where the cross beam is bolted to the body. Once I had attached everything I put the ducting back into place and reassembled.

From memory the drivers side was easier as I only had to remove some of the panels below the steering wheel to get access to the end of the dash. It took a fraction of the time the passenger side did. I didnt bother with the broken clips.

Soon after fixing my dash I headed up north into the interior of WA into one of the more isolated areas of the state were the roads are pretty rough and there are lots of corrugations, the dash never moved and inch. The fix was certainly put to the test and passed with flying colours.

          Rainman,

Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it. This has been really annoying when going off road as the whole dash moves and vibrates and not to exaggerate atleast 5-10mm.. So I am going to be really excited when I do this fix as I am very anal about cabin noises and squeaks.

I will try to take pics of the fix to better help another pradopoint member,..

          Thanks again

I think the following images are from the link you included and show basically what I did with mine. I had to make the brackets up as I couldn't find anything similar to what is used in the photos so I just cut two squares and drilled a hole in three corners and basically came up with the same result. It works a treat, last year I took my vehicle on the Canning Stock Route, corrugations from sun up to sundown and the dashboard never moved.

From memory the passenger side is more difficult to get apart, the drivers side only took a few minutes, perhaps because I knew what I was doing by then.
