When you say inlet sensor clean do you mean the MAF( mass airflow) sensor? Several people have reported issues with this unit resulting in similar problems to you.
Cheers & lets hope for a new years resolution on this one!
Additional Information....
You can clean the MAF using the instructions from this post below.

I would also suggest reading the remainder of the thread incase there are any further updates to the proceedures.Richard

Engine missfire.
Thanks Richard, thought my subject had not been posted. I do mean the MAF censor ,how ever that has now been eliminated as the problem and with 278,000 klms on the clock the toyota experts are sure I should have the injectors looked at. My tail pipe is jet black after a long hall, a good tell tail sign they tell me.

About missfire.
Thanks for the advice fellows.Turns out the Toyota dealer machanic who claimed to have cleaned the M.A.F then came for a test run didnt clean it at all,the miss was still there ,he wanted to book it in but I didnt, hopeing to fix it myself.I got curious about the M.A.F censor and pulled it out,it was covered in black carbon  The machanic bullsh#&*#ed me.I purchased a can of electronics cleaner(Liquid carbon dioxide)and it now looks like new.I wont be taking my 4x4 there ever again,he wanted to replace the fuel injectors! Owners beware.. By for now .Allan.
