Hi everyone. I am new to this site, but here goes. I did the really novice thing last year while travelling the GibbRiver Rd in the wet. I put the fan through the radiator. The mechanic who fixed the car suggested I remove the thermostatic fan and install a set of manually operated fans. Has anyone tried this and any good tips? We intend travelling duirng the wet this year and I dont want anotehr expensive repair bill. cheers. PoppyG ops:

I wouldnt recomend a manual fan as the engine could overheat u would have to continously check the temp. Another way u could go about it is wiring in a switch between the temp sensor and the power supply. Then all u hav 2 do is turn them off before a water crossing and turn them back on afterwards

Not generally a problem with the Prados.....but it is a problem with the Diesel 100 series. Again it could simply be the number of 100 series doing creek deep river crossings vs 90 series.
Also you will not be able to replace the mechanically driven cooling fan with an electical one. They simply cannot provide enough cooling. I would suggest a blind across the front of the car & moderating entry speeds to avoid any further issues.
Generally the Diesel 90 runs without the fan being required, unless its a moderate warm day > 32c or your doing some slow & steep 4WDriving.
When the fan activates....you know it. I reckon it takes about 15kw from the engine & when you only start with 96kw....it can be an issue.
