  • Aircon compressor help needed

I have a 2002 3.4l petrol 90 series and I have a very noisy whining that was rectified by pulling off the belt to the air-con.
It was whining even when it was off and the clutch was disengaged.
So I wondering if the compressor is serviceable and its possible to replace the idler pulley bearing or will I need to replace the whole compressor....and at $479 I don't really want to go down that road.
I don't really want to waste my time with a second-hand one either! So I'm hoping a bearing will be my cheaper option if its doable.

    Anyone had this problem yet???

Yes bearing can be replaced, most auto electrical shops can do it, finding one that will do it and not sell you a complete compressor is the hard part
Link below gives you a basic run down of aftermarket parts you can buy for AC compressors, its a fairly easy job with the right tools, few videos on youtube about

I think that price is great for a new compressor, just remember that you will need to add in labour to that cost (removal of gas, removal of compressor, fitment of new bearing and clutch kit, fitment of repaired compressor, new gas and oil, new belt), and if the person doing the job is not that quick, then the labour charge will skyrocket. I had mine replaced by Toyota a few years back, and it cost me $800 fitted (mine has dual air so the compressor is slightly different), your is just a std compressor so should be cheaper than that.

I agree the price is pretty good for the whole thing.
Compressors do get tired like engines, they can cook a bit in the hot conditions.
Considering you need to r&r, age of vehicle and regas Etc I would say change the whole unit.
Just make ure it's the compressor not something else.
