Hi there, Could someone help me? After driving couple of thousands km on dirty roads in outback I think my AC air filter got stuffed with dust. If I turn the aircon on the air coming out of fan smells like the outback dust. It does not happen with the aircon off even on the highest fan speed. Is there any aircon filter I can easily clean? Or what else can I try to resolve this problem? Any idea/help highly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply Ben. I don't know if it has a filter or not - that was just my guess. I am newbie here and don't really understand my car. I have 1998 Prado GXL - hope I'm at least in the right section :-) I have the issue with the dust, when I turn the aircon on - it smells terribly. Any idea what I can try to get rid of it, even if does not have a filter? Cheers Dodo

There would be something you could to get from Repco/Autobarn that would be made just for the job. Also make sure your drain is not blocked, there is a drain on the passengers side about 6 inches above the chassis rail. If it drips on a humid day it should be ok though. I always have my aircon on fresh unless you are actually driving in someone's dust and I haven't had any problems with dust entry.
Just think - every time you turn the aircon on now you get to go back to the desert for a few minutes at least

I think there is a filter sitting behind the glove box... I have a 98 VX Grande and I've seen it there but yet to work out how to get past one particular piece of bar work :?Cheers, Leon
There's no such thing as a wrong turn... it's just the scenic route!

air condition issues
yeah My mate in a Landcruiser had his 4wd service by some air condition firm before the service it was smelly etc now after the service hes happy !! I always joked where that prawn , I just cant recember where I hid it !! This really stir him up lol
anyway in his case they clean out a grille a bit like a raidator but its under the dash area I think its near or behind the glove Box , I,ll confirmed this for you soon as I,m about to tackle a big job of removing my engine and computer etc I dont think its like a filter or mesh etc If you do find a steel mesh ideally softly and carefully us e a good vacum and give that a go !
Keep tuned I,ll look at mine soon !!90 series Prado with a D4D purring under the Bonnet !!, Catch me if you Can !! taa
