Fuel leak ???

Hi All,
this is going to sound really wierd but I noticed a leak ay the back end of the drivers side of the car {2002 90 series 3Lt T/D} just behind the rear wheel first I thought main fuel tank, but I got a spirit level and plumbed up to where the leak came from and its coming out from above the wheel arch !!! yes I know that it cant but its a good 8 or 9 inches away from the tank i've run my hand all along as much of the tank as poss' and its dry, I'm sure that its diesel it even smells like it but it cant come from above the fuel tank can it ? also I thought maybe a hose leak, but doesn't seem to be any hoses there, wiped it clean and took it for a run and it's wet again, its not a big leak but it would be good to know where its coming from ,anyone got an idea ?

Problem solved

Hi All,
turned out it was'nt a fuel leak at all, there was a bottle of power steering fluid stashed in the back pocket which was leaking down on to the wheel arch !!! who would have thought.............

Time for a thread revival...

I have noticed a suspicious leak around my rear passenger side mud guard. I have cleaned the area a couple of times now and it seems to keep coming back. I have attached an image of the corporate, has anyone else had this problem on their 150 diesel?

So is it the steering fluid bottle?

If not...the is the exact area where overflow deisel goes when over filling....usually on the inside of bumper though....

As an afterthought...has your paint started to peel from the steering fluid or is that brake fluid?

Can't tell what it is as the fluid has no smell. I never fill the thing right up so I don't know how it could be the overflow. Then again my wife drives it to work each day and she is an Asian driver. She probably managers to get the vehicle on two wheels around corners and shopping centre car parks. The amount of times she tests the articulation is amazing...

I might have to get old mate Toyota to have a look at the leak.

Just double check the spot where the bottle jack sits inside....(I think it's just above there right?

You know Rainman has a point... actually looking at the picture properly, it doesn't seem to have a point of exit. It just sort of appears mid panel and then heads down..... Give it a lick and see!
