Dropped my 90 into Pitstop today...

So we'll see if Roothy (4WD action) is really a good judge of a mechanic From everything I've heard I'm sure they'll do a great job on her.

She's in for a well overdue 160,000 klm service + a timing belt and a general check over to make sure the Toyota mob I take her to at the moment aren't totally useless :roll: ... which they probably are after their last attempt at fixing something...
(well overdue as the Toyota guys didn't tell me until a month ago that my warranty service... every 10K... doesn't actually cover the handbook service schedule :shock: )

By golly, time flies when you're having fun 8) Bought the ol' girl at 100,000 klm's last june (07) and she's already clocked up another 68,000 klm's of pure joy

:lol: :lol: Photography takes me all over the place... it's nice not to be in the same place working for too long 8)

I think the red rocket was high up on the hoist when I dropped mine off... couldn't quite see the back so wasn't totally sure if it was or not.

When I lived in Wynnum, Milo would be parked in the yard quite often... would love to photograph Roothy and the Red Rocket so I might ask Mike (Pitstop Mike) if it would be something Roothy would entertain

Called in on the way home tonight to check progress... good and bad news

Oh, and it was Ruthy's Red Rocket up on the hoist... Some more work being done on it next week.
My Prado is tucked up nice and warm next to the Red Rocket for the next couple of nights 8)

So the good news is...
...when they pulled the front of the engine off something didn't seem right so they explored a bit further and found the timing belt tensioner arm was actually 98% broken... ie, just a tiny bit of metal holding it together :shock: was just the surrounding pressure holding it in place.
Why good news...?? well, I'd hate to think what would have happened if it was allowed to break completely and fail.

Mike spoke to Toyota who advised him that the part in question is no longer made :shock: but he managed to hunt down a new and genuine Toyota part from somewhere had it couriered over and it's all gone back together nicely.
Monday morning they'll finish the rest of the 160,000 k service and hopefully the car will be like new 8)

Took me an hour and 15 mins to write that post :shock:
Half way through I had to dash out the door and then remembered I was half way through ops:

I'm just glad it was found before it gave way totally... would have been a lot worse. As it stands it could have been the cause of the engine noise I was hearing a few months back and Toyota's fix (the AC tensioner) might have just been a band aid fix...
or... it was an honest miss as it is inside the engine and would only be seen doing something like the timing belt.

I'll find out the end damage bill tomorrow... engine and wallet

Got a call from Mike (Pitstop) saying they had found another piece of the Timing Belt tensioning system broken

They ordered the part... the actual tensioner, from Toyota and guess what?? Toyota sent the wrong part :roll:
Can't get away from Toyota's incompetence :evil: so... no playdoh today and I'm working from sun up to late evening tomorrow so I guess I'll get to pick the ol' girl up on Wednesday.

Called Toyota this arvo to find out what happens under warranty... surprise surprise... I haven't heard back from Toyota yet :wink:

Well, got a call from Pitstop today and they finally have my poor girl back together... for the last time thankfully :shock:

They found a number of things wrong once they got inside the engine and have been slowly problem solving there way through all the symptoms.

I can't remember the three things they said they replaced but Mike did say she's running beautifully now

So, after a week at Pitstop I'll get my Playdoh back tomorrow... (well, actually my wife will... I'm working )

I've asked Mike to keep what ever parts he replaced so I can take a few piccies of them to share with you all.

Mike and the crew at Pitstop have gone well beyond the call of duty here... Mike kept me informed of updates the entire week... answered my stupid questions with out laughing at me (well, not to my face anyway )
He hunted down discontinued, genuine parts from where ever he could. He was focused on getting my car back to me as quickly as he could but only if it was perfect.

I haven't experienced service like that for a while... in any industry... so hats off to you Mike and the boys at Pitstop 4X4
