Which motor ??? .... that's a debate that will rage on forever.

The answer has a lot to do with what you are going to use the vehicle for.

Have a look through some of the previous threads discussing petrol v's diesel motors ... and do a bit of a search.

    Here's a starting point ... viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2885

Oh .... and can you please put your location in your profile.

    Cheers

Your also talking two totally different vehicles. 3.4L is the older shape 95 series. The 4L is the new shape. The 3L diesel is available in both formats but the 120 was available with the two different diesels depending on age. If money isnt an issue then personally the D4D is the way to go. Great on fuel so gives you heaps of touring range, plenty of grunt for towing and the sand. The 1kz diesel is fine in the 95 series but personally I think under powered for the 120. The 4 litre motor is great, heaps of power, better on fuel then the 3.4L and is still good on fuel but a bit thirstier then the D4D. You need to give us more info, like how much do you want to spend ??? Do you want some thing from the 90's or you want later 2000 + model ?? Cheers

Re: 3 ltr turbo diesel vs 3.4 ltr vs 4ltr

I agree the best engine is getting a D4D turbo Diesel overall is goes like a petrol but is it cheaper to run ..... while thats the debate that will rage on forever but I think this will sum it up a bit

if you know how to change engine oil and do basic stuff such as grease the shaft and steering grease nipples witha grease gun ( only a couple pumps of grease per 10,000ks or after water crossing trips) then go for the D4D as this gets done every 5,000ks but the power and comfort of the D4D is brillant as well the effiecent fuel consumption and awesome for heavy work such as beach driving, 4wdriving, and towing etc

But go for the 4 litre as its good but oil service every 10,000ks but use more juice just a bit more per 100ks in city but beach driving and 4wdriving well it can get pretty thirsty etc

so somebody say 20,000 for a 90 series prado mmm ouch Not mine thou !!! My Prado is Priceless !! Especially when it has a D4D under the 90 series Bonnet !ta She the best of both worlds !!

Good luck mate hoep this clicks your decision rolling

I kinda agree with ya Trojan !!

This debate can rage on forever , I agree price difference is a factor but for how long has diesel been more expensive than petrol !! on another note I pay $1.29 in North rocks BP sydney where Unleaded was at $112.9 its truly debateable then again diesel and pertrol prices vary from state to state so at the end of the day the distance I get out of my full tank compare to a petrol distance to the tank , to me works out Diesel can be cheaper then again as I said this debate can rage on forever at the end of the day My choice is Diesel, It works for me and the distance I get compare to my wife petrol prado is proof that I,m better off with Diesel Hey please dont try and fool me or get me into a debate for the recored its depends on many factors such as how you drive , how you maintain and what type of grade quality fuel etc the list can go on for example type of oil you use .......

At the end of the day no one will win the argument as it does work both ways but as I said if you do a lot of towing or 4wdriving i would recommend diesel but just for city driving ( non peak hour traffic flow) and to the shops well petrol can be a little cheaper to run. etc
