  • Water storage in 95 Series

Anyone got any ideas for concealed water storage in a 95? Heaps of options for the 120s (around the tank, rear 1/4 panel etc) but I have searched for 95 info and not found much. Any of you creative DIYers thought outside the box?

    Cheers
    Chriso

    Hi Chriso,

when you find out, let me know, i'm lookong at the same problem.

i was talking with a guy the other day about the same and he said he saw a guy with a limited amount of water in PVC tube located behind his bullbar, mainly used for hand washing and last minute emergency water. i've looked behind my factory bar and it's got me stuffed

My boss has set up something like that in his Triton, but in the rear. Think he got basically 3 widths of the car out of 100mm PVC pipe, what that holds I'm not sure, but a reasonable amount.
Looking under the Prado there's no real room for this, mostly due to the second fuel tank.

What about behind the rear seats, but in front of the cargo barrier? I know in mine there's a bit of room there, might be able to knock up a similar sort of system?
*Just went down and had a look, you'd be able to get at least 3 to 4 length of 50mm pipe there, could be an idea? Could fix easily to cargo barrier...

I have removed the seats from the rear and put a box in boot.

Today I put in shelves next to the box on each side that use the the seat supports as a base. I hope it fits 3 10 litre containers on each side, giving 60 litres for long trips.

I'll try to get some photos together and post a link.

I am able to carry 1x10lt and 1x20ltr bottle on each side of the car [total 60ltr ] in frame that sits beside the cargo cage
that i madeto carry fridge and boxes etc.I utilise the side seat bolts mountings to fix the frame in place with the main rack utilising the seat base mounts in the floor.

I've got a 55 litre wedge shaped tank that sits on the drawers in the back. It fits in behind the upright of the middle seat and has a hose running from the tank to a gate valve that sits just to the left of the draws. It was made by 4WD Interiors, but I dont think they make them any more. I replaced all the plastic Nylex fitting with brass etc as I didnt think they were up to it.

At the last 4WD show here in Perth most of the big displays had the same sort of tank (with larger capacity) with an inbuilt electric pump, I was going to do the same but ended up fitting the gate valve.

The biggest problem with this system is you need draws in the back and it takes up a lot of space. With the Engel in the back there is only just enough room for a small food box that we use as a daily snack box. The roof rack wasnt big enough so we had to graduate to a camper trailer - just to carry enough food to keep my son topped up. The trailer has a 65 litre tank, so now we can carry 120 litres of water. It never ends.

I looked at all the options when i got my 90 and some are not cheep and always take up valueble space,so i whent for basics,2x20ltr plastic water jerry's,you know the green ones, they are realy tuff and will never break on you. They fit perfectly on the back floor laying down, this is fine if you only have small kids who dont need the full the leg room.If you dont have any kids like us you can fit two on each side. For short trips and every day use I also have a 25 ltr staped behinde my Wako fridg rite at the rear door with a hand pump, like the ones you see in older caravans. This is great we use it all the time,we acces the fridg from the back seet which saves needing a fridg slide. I'l try and dig out some pics.
