Prado 90 tachometer cutting in and out.

Hi, I just got my 1997 Prado GXL, and loving it.

There is only one real fault I have found. While not a major problem, the tacho is cutting in and out.

It's the 3.4L V6 and the tacho normally isn't doing anything. But sometimes going over bumps (not necessarily big ones) it will cut in and other times will start working for no apparent reason.

Does this sound like a loose wire? Something my Toyota dealer could fix easy?

The Prado is entirely stock, as far as I know, if that counts for anything.

Its probably a broken solder joint in the dashboard circuit board....

A speedometer place should be able to remove it & resolder the board connections.

G'day,
My mate had the same problem and it was a faulty IC in the dash . Went ok for a few weeks and then it played up again .
One thing he was told .....be very careful if you pull the dash out .....DO NOT TURN ON THE IGNITION....or you'll be back at the dealer getting it sorted !

You can also disconnect the battery and not have to worry about anything electro related while you pul the dash apart.
