    Lamborghini door for Prado - legal or illegal?

    Hi Bros,

    I finally decide to go with this question before going ahead with my mod.

    I don't know whether the Lamborghini door (raising up and down) is legal or illegal with a Prado in Australia?

    To be honest, I haven't seen any Lamborghini door style car in Sydney.

    I already have the kit - but it needs serious mods in order to fit with my rig because there is no Lambor kit for Prado in the world. I think it will be cool, however, I really don't want to get a very big fine for this mod if one day a cop stops my car and asks me going out of my rig. Should I going through the windows :P

    All your ideas are very appreciated.

    You have the wrong car. You obviously like electro show poneys, so sell the Prado and get a sports car. Spare us from this crap...........

      I think there's a reason why there aren't any lambo door mod kits for Prados in the world....

      If you do go ahead with the project, I hope it's really sturdy. I've seen that video of you climbing that rock hill.... with this lambo mod, I reckon your doors may very well fall off :lol:

        There was a 120 on carpoint with a high level of mods including Lamborghini styled doors.

        Unfortunately, it's not on Carpoint anymore.

            I wish it was later in the day when I read this thread because I am in stitches and I could probably use the amusment later

            Unfortunately, on a sad note, I have to say I take offence to your comments Chriso ... us rednecks don't do LEDS or Home Theatre in our General Lee's :P

            As a colleague of mine has just said after reading the thread .... why :?: If they don't make a kit for the Prado then there is going to have to be some serious modification and testing for and Engineering Certificate to be legal. I think you'd be lucky to find a legitimate engineer who'd be willing to sign off on it at all.

              You'd need some serious reinforcing of the body to stop it wobbling like a plate of jelly when all 4 doors are up the air.

                Not being one to EVER knock someone's excellent ideas (note excess sarcasim...), if you want to give it a go - i'd love to see the photos!!!
                Remember, for it to be in anyway legal - you will have to get it engineered and signed off, otherwise expect a defect notice...

                For the record - photos must include shots of all cutting, welding, fabrication and the finished product...

                Cos who knows, someone may want to copy your idea...

                  @Matty & Loz: Honestly, I was in USA before and I did this job in USA by myself before. Not much but done well.

                  Now, I am confident to say that, I can mod this by myself without any problem. Even I think that it is really difficult to find out someone who can install this for me in Sydney.

                  However, I now understand that the hardest thing is that finding an Engineer who is willing to sign the certification for me.

                  Can a Qualified Mechanical man sign this for me?

                  or Can someone find out any Engineer who can sign for me? I even can invite the engineer to watch what I done, then test my car, then sign it only.

                        Each to their own I reckon.

                        I drive a ford ranger extra cab at work with the suicide rear doors. Love how open it is with the doors open. Would be a great mod for a prado like the new FJ.
