225 75/R16 LT and HT are they OK to run together?

The reason I ask is a long story. Suffice to say I have a brand new LT on one side and a brand new HT on the other side.

Also what alternate size will be OK to run with this size tyre if I decide to buy a set of 4 second hand tyres off Gumtree?. 245 75/R16 or 265 or will a wider width and a smaller height combination of tyre work OK?

As long as it meets the minimum load rating, running HT and LT should be fine but if the tread pattern differs, you may get different braking and acceleration performance. A HT may also bag out more than an LT so when reducing tyre pressures offroad, each tyre will need different pressures.

OK thanks. So with the calculator how close is close enough and how much difference is too much?

It is not a good idea to run different size tyres at the same time. If all 4 on the road are the same but the spare is slightly different, then it should be fine for short distances in an emergency to use the spare.

When you have different diameter tyres, it will rotate at different speeds and thus makes the diffs work harder. If you have different width tyres or tread pattern, they will react differently to the road surface.

If I had to run different diameter tyres, probably aim for a difference under 1%.
