Re: WA. trip to GTG april 09
Hi there people,
I have just joined PP and have confirmed with Mav that we (my wife and myself) will be going to the GTG in July.
We live in York (WA) and have an 06 GXL Prado and will be towing our Tvan camper.
I just wondered if anyone would like to return back from the GTG via the Gary Junction Hwy (so called!!), the Rudall River National Park, Newman, Mt Augustas, the western route through the Kennedy Ranges from Mt Sandiman and then down thru the Murchison. We went up to the Pilbarra incl. Karajini, Mt Augustas, Kennedy Ranges etc in August last year in my Td4 Freelander which will go most places the Prado will go but not towing the Tvan and took a day run out of Newman to have a look around near Balfour Downs etc but did not go further because we could not carry enough gear to be self sufficient. We have all the gear that we would need to take this route back ourselves and but the additional vehicle(s) add an element of security that I prefer in my advancing years!!
Also just to add another thought, how about the outbound trip via the first part of the Anne Beadell to Neales Junction and then turn north on the Connie Sue? I have the Lewis/Savage great treks book and there are apparently some good camping spots south of Warburton on the Connie Sue. This avoids having to stay at Warburton which I imagine is no better than it was twenty years ago. BTW we escorted some friends in a Hiace van to Uluru and on to Alice in our then Range Rover on that trip and they had no problems with the GCR then.
We are thinking of leaving on the Saturday or maybe Sunday morning ( a week prior to the GTG) and we would welcome anyone who would like to use our place here in York as a gathering and set off point.
I see that Mav has posted a list of members who are going to the GTG. How about we arrange a get together sometime and nut out some more plans?
Looking forward to hearing what people have to say.
Cheers
Mike
