Most high country rivers will work on either. Lures work well for trout most times. If the kids are a good cast lures keep them busy. If not sinker with bait or float with bait drifting. Scrub worms(most fishing shops carry them Mansfield, Bright etc, even some milk bars) are an easy bait for kids to use, just thread a few on the hook any old how and your away. Grass hoppers are also a great bait and kids love chasing them, so you double the fun. If it stays warm there will be plenty rising at dawn and dusk. I'll be packing the lures and the fly rod :-)

Thanks Anthony, if we get good rain before then I'll toss it on top.
If not I'll put the blow up one in just in case.
Still worth trying to catch a fish or two.

My kids would like to have a fish, bait or lure what is the go because I have no idea.

My dad will be having a fish, bit of spinning, celtas.
Also big fat worms, throw them in a big hole & relax & get ready for your I'd to buckle over!

Just off the phone to Parks Vic and as suggested above the toilet is pumped out, so using normal portable toilet chemicals is fine.

Edit: Ive since spoken to the ranger and he has also informed me that sometimes they have to pump out the stinky bio degradable long drop toilets if they get too full, so wouldnt recommend putting the bio-degradable bags in them either.

So we are talking about the same toilet here, namely the long drop? If so I guess a Porta Potti is the lesser of 2 evils then?

Hey Chris, do you give lessons? Have a good selection of fishing gear but it's all spinning stuff, have never tried fly fishing before.

Personally, I went on fleabay, there's a seller in Nunawading, 20ltr is a good size. $59.
I had one picked up for $50 cash.
That's where I got my cheap awning $152.50 for 2.5x3 MT.
also my cheap pool cover roller cover $130.
My cheap led light with solar panel $30

China is cheap :-) & I'm a cheapskate lol......

Don't worry about capacity, you can always go and empty it . My toilet is tall which is good because if I had a short one my knees would be up around my head .
Go and sit on one . Don't get it to small or you will be walking all the time to empty it anyway

One thing to look at with the toilets isnthe flushing system. There seems to be two types- bellows and piston.

Depending on use, the bellow type have been known to crack/ perish causing them to not pump and are not repairable as they come in at the cheaper end of the scale.

The piston type can be repaired and are normally found on the top end models. We have the Thetford 365 which is the same height as a normal toilet with about a 20 litre waste tank on it.

I was wondering if that might be the case. My folks had a piston type and it seemed to last.

Height is a factor for those of us with dodgy knees and backs.
