I tried to order a part from a Toyota dealer last week for my 120 series and was told that they didn't know when it would be available because of the situation in Japan. I gather that the impacts are more wide spread than we are led to believe...
Ordered mine 9th of March, was told it would be off the ship on the 22nd of April, and then 5 to 10 working days to be ready to pick up, Chased it up last friday. Got the "I'll look into it" line
Just been told Toyota not giving ETA's basically dont know when, via voice message. Suspect my ride has been shifted on to a high value customer and I'm going to have to wait.
Angry phone call will be inbound to the dealer tomorrow.
I have received an email from Toyota Fleet dealing with the shortages. The email has sections relating to Camry production in Aust, Hilux production in Thailand as well as production lines in Japan. Copy of the Japan production section follows:-
CBU Production in Japan Update:
Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has advised that it resumed production of vehicles at all its Japanese vehicle production facilities from 18 April to 27 April. Production volume was approximately 50 percent of normal. As of 27 April, all production facilities entered their annual spring holiday, up to and including 9 May. Planned production from 10 May to 3 June will be approximately 50 percent.
TMC has advised that at this stage, Japanese sourced vehicle orders for May have been postponed to catch up with March and April production. Customer orders scheduled for May will be moved to June production onwards.
Global production:
Most plants around the world are operating at approximately 40 to 50 percent of production volumes. It is expected that production will increase from August. Exact timing and details are still to be confirmed.
In Japan and overseas, TMC expects to return to normal production volumes in November or December 2011.
Australian Implications:
Due to the limited production schedule at all Toyota factories we are anticipating significant supply delays and shortages for key models over the short to medium term. Some vehicle specification choices may also be restricted.
We are providing this information so that you can best manage your fleet.
The bottom line is disrupted production for the rest of the year.

Any one else got a similar experience
Hey pogo,
My story is EXACTLY the same plus or minus 1 day of the order date, and the original expected delivery date.
Extracted from a PPB Advisory circular: Impact of Japanese earthquake and tsunami on Australian car dealerships
The devastating Japanese earthquake and tsunami in March 2011 will impact the Australian automotive industry for some time yet. Some examples of this include:
Toyota manufactures 45% of total vehicles in Japan and production and distribution levels have been significantly impacted around the world. Toyota is likely to lose the title of the world’s biggest car maker to General Motors and has reported a 77% fall in net income for the financial quarter ending 31 March 2011. Australia is reportedly receiving half of pre-earthquake stock levels.
Honda and Nissan produce a quarter of their vehicles in Japan and are experiencing proportionately similar issues to Toyota.
Factory damage to 3rd and 4th tier suppliers and component manufacturers in Japan will have significant effects on various vehicle supply lines. For example, a new Nissan Navarra ordered today would not likely be delivered until December. The Nissan GTR/Godzilla and 370ZX factory, along with the Subaru steering wheels components factory, are rumoured to have been destroyed in the Japanese disaster.
A number of dealers, including one of the country’s biggest Toyota dealers, have scrapped their policy of wholesaling used stock after 90 days and have reduced both staffing levels and hours. Australian Toyota dealers are experiencing significant stock shortages in the Camry and Aurion models.
European rivals such as Volkswagen are expected to enjoy a comparatively good run with no supply constraint problems forecast.
While Australian automotive dealers have been reporting an increase in the price of used Japanese cars and gross margins, sales volumes are down which will have a follow-on effect to the sales volumes and profitability of the finance and other departments of the dealership.
Australian dealers are suggesting that despite manufacturer propaganda, it will be next year before anything like normal supply levels return.

My dealer just advised me that my car has been built and is heading for the wharf for shipping. He can't give me a VIN number yet though so I don't know if it is true. How could I tell?

Start counting 39 days?

Ordered my new VX back in February, expected build date was April and delivery May. Well, not so now according to dealer, delays may be longer than everybody thinks. Dealers are given a code by Toyota which will tell them when the vehicle ordered will be built, then the code changes when the vehicle goes into production. Dealers can tell you when notified when your vehicle goes into production.
Holding my breath.....I want my Prado.....
