Hi there all. Looking to buy a deisel manual prado around 2008 model and need some help to clear up a few queries. I assume they have basically the same running gear as the hilux so was there any common mechanical faults and are they full time 4wd. Also whats the difference between a GX and a GXL. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Gxl is the next in the range
Gx is your bog standard,
If you can afford it go the Gxl.

Post Nov. 2006 the base model is the "Standard". A 2008 GX will have wide wheels and flares the same as the higher spec models. The only differences in the engines and drive chains is the higher models with traction control, VSC, DAT etc have an electrically operated center diff lock where as the lower spec models have a manual center diff lock. There are various combinations of ABS, traction control, VSC, safety packs, leather seats etc available as either standard or options in the range.

I think the Gx has steel wheels instead of alloys. There is no cruise control.
