  • New 150 on a lease

    Hey Guys
New to the site, new to the prado game too. I am just about to sign up for a GXL Prado 2012 Turbo Diesel in silver with matts,bonnet/hlight protectors and towball. I got a price of $57700 driveaway from the leasing company to be picked up in W.A. Does this sound like a decent price?? Its sounds fairly good, also getting some accessories put on after it leaves the factory to save on Luxo tax. Any advice woulld be good.
    Cheers
    Greg

My only comment is how the **** did you manage that? My leasing company reckons that my 2009 GXL Prado Turbo Diesel in black with matts etc has a market value of $57k (in W.A.) and I'd be struggling to get a new one for $64k which puts it way above the threshold for LCT. So, please tell me where this Prado is so I can get one and flog off the old one while still more or less breaking even.

This is through NLC which have been really helpful, depends who your employer uses but mine uses Maxxia or NLC ,including the GST it is just under 63k but with hte lease you don't pay that obviously. The LCT part was $157. There is also an approx 4 month wait which looks like the norm. I'll send you some details if you are interested?
      Cheers

When u quote figures without GST is a bit misleading, with GST that would be an alright price but WA is normally a bot dearer than the eastern seaboard.

Exactly, $63k sounds closer to the mark though still a pretty good purchase with the metallic paint and extras. All I got for my $64k were mats and tinting (but mind you there weren't many factory extras available at the time). Unfortunately, because of LCT my employer limits leases to purchases of $57,466 and below INCLUDING GST but excluding stamp duty. I bought the 2009 Prado through my own company in 2009 so will probably do an associate lease to myself through my employer for the current market value of the car which is about $57k and thus just below the threshold.

Sorry wasn't trying to mislead just trying to work out whether I am getting shafted or not... With the lease you don't pay the GST side of things so I am trying to convince myself that it doesn't exist.

Price sounds pretty reasonable for WA at least. If you buy through any GST-registered business or company the GST effectively ceases to exist [at least until it comes time to sell it] (which is why it happens with a lease as your company buys it and then leases it to you). What's more important to consider is whether the lease is advantageous to you tax-wise.

I am about to sign up for a new one tomorrow hopefully, based on discussion last week, will be able to purchase on just under the Luxury car tax limit. Its simple really, they either say yes are I cannot buy the car, my employer has a luxury car tax limit.
So basically its just under $57466 plus stamp duty plus rego.
Take it or leave it, its their choice.
If you do not have the same limit, I guess, you need to negotiate with the dealer.

One thing I can suggest is that you contact this mob http://www.vehicleconsultants.com/home.htm
and get a price from them. Its worth the few hundred dollars they charge, just so you got something to take back to your dealer, its up to them to beat it then.

I do not know if there is differences depending on the state,ie delivery charges etc.
I am going to sell the current one privately unless they give me a real good offer.

Maxjj is this on a lease? W.A has massive stamp duty costs compared to everywhere else in oz. I was hoping to sign up today but I am procrastinating big time haha

It's not just the stamp duty, vehicle prices are generally more expensive in WA [supply and demand?] - I haven't come across anyone who's got a 150 GXL auto diesel in W.A. under the LCT limit (in fact, as the OP points out his is a good $5k over as was mine even with a fleet discount). Stamp duty isn't so critical as that is not involved in the price calculation for LCT.
