  • Looking to buy a 120

    Hi,

My name is Ty and I have just registered. I'm looking to buy a 120 series, diesel, Auto. My budget is $30,000 and I'm obviously looking for the least km vehicle I can find.

Looking at all the car sales websites got me very confused. I noticed that there are nine different badges (Grande, GX, GX Limited, GXL, GXL Advantage Limited Edition, Pilbara, Standard, TX and VX) and there are also two different series (KDJ120R and KZJ120R).

Can someone please point me in the right direction in the forum or reply here as I would like to know what are the diffrences between all the models.
I'm very split between a Wrangler and a Prado, but just kept on hearing terrible stories about Jeeps. I'm starting to lean towards the Toyota much more after test driving one.
Also one last question, I'm struggling to find an under 100,000km with my budget and am concerned to buy a vehicle with that many k's on it. But correct me if I'm wrong, a Prado will go for much longer (250,000 km +) trouble free?

    Appreciate the feedback.
    Thanks
    Ty

I just purchased my 120 with a similar budget to yours. You won't get a diesel at those k's for that price, looking at 35k up. I picked up a petrol gxl for 32 with only 80 k's after extensive looking around.

The best vehicle for not much money.

If only it worked like that.

As mentioned, for $30k you will be looking at well used, high kilometer diesels.

You will also be lucky to find a 120 with under 100k kms. Raise your budget or lower your expectations.

        Good luck.

Kzj is the older engine and came with a 4 speed auto. kdj is the more powerful update mated to a 5 speed auto. Some info on the different models and engines here:

What about this one? More than you wanted to spend but a great car.

Thats a reasonable price for the vehicle considering age, km's, etc.

Its more than the OP wants to spend, but the 120 diesels hold their value. Having just gone through this process I was shocked to see the price difference between diesel & petrol 120's. It was a big factor in me buying a V6 auto.

Unless it comes with a full service history - knock $3K off the price for new injectors and pipes. But even then.

Thank you all for your feedback.
r4ndll, thanks for that link. It did shed some light regarding the models.

And yes like everyone says here I now do realize that it would be impossible to find a diesel under 30K with under 100,000km
Does anyone know what is the fuel consumption like on the V6 auto?

austin1985, what year model is yours?

I got a 2008 model, there are some good deals on the v6 options out there with low k's. was originally looking for a diesel myself, but couldn't stretch the budget. No complaints about the v6 though, fuel consumption is about 13/14 l per 100k depending on the driving.

Hi all. I just picked up an October 2004 GLX (V6 5sp Auto and full leather) with an original 97,000km and full log books for $24,500.

After a week of driving, city and freeway, I could not be happier. First fill up averaged 13l/100km, which is comparable with the wifes old V6 Captiva.
