  • Buying my 1st Prado

hey all just registered myself here on the PPForum as my wife and I are about to buy a prado 120 V6.

can any one give me some things to look for ie. what to look for with suspension bushes ect. particularly engine issues with the V6.

the Mrs likes the Grande so any info on that would be the best, but also the VX. Im in brissy so there are a few here in our price range

    All responses appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Josh

Google these terms followed by siteradopoint.com and you'll find some of this stuff being discussed.

    • Rust under rear door seal
    • Rust on sunroof
    • Cracked dashboard
    • Deterioration of rubber on the Grande's rear airbags
    • Deformed bashplates
    • Totally dry uni joints on the prop/drive shaft
    • Cracked inner guards if dual batteries installed
    • Old style bullbar brackets if it has a sovereign bullbar (this is subject to a recall)
    • Driveshaft clunk

There are two things that put me off from looking at "cheap" 120's in Queensland:

                1) Ex-mines vehicles
                2) Vehicles that have been flooded and are "written off repaired".

If you are looking a diesel - especially the 1KD-FTV - and come with a service history, check the 80K KM service receipt, good Toyota dealers should have pulled the injectors out and replaced the seals (not the rubber O-Rings).

Ask to start vehicle cold, while facing downhill - if there is white smoke, walk away.

IF it is in the 120 KM range and this has not been done, be prepared for (if you get it done via Toyota dealership) a $5K hit.

I'm not trying to put you off, just giving you the benefit of my knowledge - and experience of what happens when this isn't done....
