  • buying a 150 prado

hi guys im matt, im new to this site

the misses has told me we need to get a new car in the next 6-12 months and she has said yes to a 150 prado, will be looking at a 09-10 model

is there anything I need to look at when looking for one?

and I will be selling my current 4wd and I should get at least $15000 for that so I am allowed to spend all of that on the new car.
so my question to you guys out there is there any specific Prado things that I should have on that list.
it will have the usual gear on it but if there is any specific prado things i need to look at then that would be great

    thanks
    matt

Sorry, just joking. Sounds great, welcome aboard!

As to what to fit what do you want to do? Bar, lift, tyres, lights, steps, dual battery system, compressor, roofrack, bash plates, lockers, camper trailer... ah the list never ends!

Hehe ok.. 15k on accessories is going to make it a nice car. Myself, I've spent about 6-7 k - and only the basics like OME lift, under body protection, bull bar, UHF and dual battery.. 15 will make it sweet.

Can't really give advise on what to look out for as I bought new in late July 13.

              thanks guys,
yeah, the basic list will be
              starting from the front.
bar, lights, winch, snorkel, dual batt, suspension 2-3 inch, air comp, uhf, tyres, rear air locker roof rack and cargo barrier, will be making my own draws again.

with the under body gaurds, what is everyone using?

Instead of going for the 09-10 model Prado and spending $15000 on accessories, put the $15000 as a deposit on the new 2014 GXL model.

2009 Prado are selling between $65k - $23k and the 2010 Prado are selling between $69k - $30k. It really depends on what you are looking for, more or less km's, model of the Prado, accessories that comes with the car (aftermarket or genuine) and service history of the car etc.

Or you can go the other way and purchase the one that comes with a lot of accessories (might have a lot of km's on the clock) and either use the money as a down payment for the second hand car or pocket the money and go on a holiday with your Prado.

A serious 4x4 Prado owner would take that beast to places where you might think it might not get through, do you really want to be that second or even third person to take the beast on the same route? Buy the new one and watch it grow to an angry 4x4 beast (it's yours from day one).

I got mine for $60k, when I ordered mine last year they had a new 2013 new face lift Prado in the yard but it was white in color and they were trying to sell that to me last year for under $60k. It was frustrating to wait for the color that I wanted (black) but it's well worth the wait.

The price range that I have provided for the 09-10 model Prado is not only for the GXL, it's for all the Prado models that were available for that year (GX through to the top of then range Kakadu model).

                      i agree,

buy new and make it your's

My plan buy new (Done) then work on it (in progress)
                      Mine White GXL then ++++

it is really up to you and what you want to do with it

hi guys, I do like your thinking about buying the new one, but the problem if I did that I wouldn't be able to afford to put anything on the car, I have been looking and I will be looking for one that's basically been the mums car etc, mine will be getting used for whats its built for with a trip to the cape planned in 2016
I will just have to see how far we can stretch the budget for the car

but still interested in what people have fitted
                        thanks guys

The Prado's in stock form are a pretty capable vehicle, especially the 150 with the traction control. Buying new means you can build it up over time and keep it for the longer term; you know who's driven the vehicle, the condition its in and preventative maintenance thats required to ensure it lasts a long time.

Buying used is a good way to go. I bought a 2011 with only 40,000km on it for 42k earlier this year. It looks and drives like new the dealer threw in a new set of BFGs to sweeten the deal. Sure it's a V6 but similar d4d's are high 50's used. Once I did the maths I needed to drive the car over 200kms to break even on the diesel. You just need to work out what suits you and your budget. So far I have a bullbar, radio, lights and electric brake controller - to come duel battery and a lift )
Good luck and enjoy your new car
