  • In my budget is a 380k 03 TD Prado, is it too high km.

    Hi guys,
I'm a newbie to the site,
I m a mechanic by trade and did my apprenticeship with Toyota years ago and remember a few petrol v6 issues mainly head gaskets.
I remember only servicing the diesels and the odd timing pump and injector issues.
So I posted to ask any other TD owners
Within my budget is a 2003 TD Prado with 380k 5speed man, I like the car but worried it's too many Kms.
No smoke on start up apparently no oil usage between 5 km servicing, and t belt was done @200k?

Hi and welcome, if you are a mechanic by trade thats a good start. Yes kms are high but if it has been serviced regularly that is a good thing. Timing belts on the 1kz diesels are every 150km not every 100 like a lot of other cars so it would be due again at 300km. I would have a thorough look at it, what price are they asking?

If it is well maintained it will be ok, people have gotten 500,000+ on the 1kz's with good maintenance.

Dude, go the v6. They cost a bit more in juice, but the power is very adequate and maintenance is very low.

I would have assumed the diesel with 380k wouldn't be worth any more than 10k, 16.5k is a bit steep imo. In a few years, I would imagine you'd have a better time selling the v6 from 06 too, I can't see you getting much for a 03 prado with 450,000 on it

Yeah I think to be honest its top dollar for that many kms. I bought mine with 97000kms on it 18 months ago for $19500 and its a turbo diesel. Its only a GX however had bullbar, side steps and aftermarket wheels on it and its in fairly good condition overall. Keep an eye out for a better example and it will be a similar price anyway, or as the guys said you can buy a v6 for well under 20k now and it will be similar in price anyway.
