  • Last minute buying advice - 120 Series GXL Vs VX

    Hey guys, sorry about what I'm sure is a re-post. I've been doing a heap of research into Petrol 120s and have just put down a deposit on one unseen in Perth while I'm away in Darwin. My Dad's been to the dealership and checked it out for me and assures me it's immaculate but i still aren't 100% sure on what the VX comes with and whether there's any Pros or Cons over a GXL.

    This one is a 2007 Silver VX with 92,000kms on the clock. I've paid $29,990 which they wouldn't budge on subject to my test drive on Friday morning.

    I understand that the VX comes with Leather seats, Traction Control, Stability Control and Dual Control AC. Is there anything else I should know about?

    Are there any cons about the VX which make them less suitable off-road or to accessorise and put a 2" lift and Lockers in?

    Thanks in advance guys and sorry to be a pain, its a lot of money and I'm kind of stressed about making the right decision.

    What year is it? Based on what I have read the 120 VX is yep the same as a. GXL etc when it comes to suspension mods.

      Mechanically same, just traction control. When Those master cylinders fail $3000. You won't need lockers with traction control.
      Inside what you said plus wood grain etc. 30k is a bit much if its v6 & cheap if its a diesel?
      Same suspension!

        Thanks so far guys, Im a bit worried about getting the traction control and stability stuff. Im used to driving completely modded 4x4s with lockers an all and the traction control just seems like more to go wrong.

        It's a 2007 Petrol, for Perth the price seems pretty reasonable for a dealership with that mileage from my research. The GXLs and VXs seem to get the same sort of money.

          The traction control and stability control are well worth it in my opinion. But as Anthony said more expensive to repair if things go awry.

            The traction control seems to be almost as good as lockers. It's a good thing.
            Yes it s more to go wrong $3000, but usually they are ok, you should be right.

            Must be a Perth thing, a bit higher than melb, but I'd say you are getting a lot of car for the $$$$$ when not comparing.
            I mean just face value low Klm's, reliable v6, 5 speed auto, the best colour, I say go for it! Don't worry!

              I have a 2005 VX V6 auto. Very nice car. I paid just over $20k. It had 160k kms and $10k of accessories fitted.

              One thing to check - get underneath and check the left engine mount bracket, at the point where it welds to the chassis. Mine failed resulting in the bracket dropping inside the chassis and the engine listing by about 5 degrees. Its a known weak point and the subject of recall in the USA. Toyota dealers in Australia will fake surprise and "honestly" tell you its the first one they have EVER seen.

              Other than that - all the usual checks.
