  • Toyota Warranty

    Hello All,

Looking at getting GXL soon. Just read on another forum that buying a non-toyota accessory will void vehicle warranty. Is that true or partly true or not true at all. Basically I plan to get a HR towbar for the new 150 as I have read that it does not need the bumper to be cut out.

    Thanks.
D4D. How long will it last?

Non genuine accessories won't void your warranty unless they cause the issue.

In your case fitting a towbar would have no effect if say your alternator failed, so no problems. If however you fitted a suspension lift and you then did a CV joint then you may not be covered as the lift could have had an effect.

    Cheers Andrew

      Thanks Andrew.

Well, I do not intend to do much modifications, it will just be a nudge bar, towbar and may be some driving lights if budget permits. By the way any good deals with the current 4.99% being offered?

      Thanks.

I got a much better deal from Barry at Goulburn Toyota compared to the dealer in ACT. They can do ACT reg for you no worries. Steer clear of our local service departments, they damaged my car when it went in.

David Crawford at Cooma Toyota did a slightly better deal for me than what Goulburn would do. ACT rego as well and they essentially delivered the car. I thought I'd ask the local dealer if they'd match the price, their response "Can we interest you in a second hand Prado for that price?".... Much better idea to drive an hour down the road, be it Yass, Goulburn or Cooma.

Andrew, found something quiet useful that you have mentioned else where in another forum and is quiet unrelated to this warranty subject. Some one asked what accessories and other questions with a budget in mind, your reply was to watch what was required as you went along and not load up a vehicle with some thing you may not use ever. Having said that you normally need things that you do not have. But having said that I too plan to get accessories as I experience the need for each item.
Bushbasher, surely the assurance of extended warranty is going to be first on the list.

As for the dealers I too want to stay away from Canberra Toyota as there is no good experience that I can mention except to say that as soon as my current vehicle (a car) was out of warranty and capped service never went back. Due to their monopoly in Canberra there is no way to get a better deal and so I will be looking else where.

On your original post , i work for a Major Dealership with 3 franchises , it is Australian law that the Manufacturer has to prove that the accessories or what ever caused the fault , they cannot void your warranty unless they do
the only times they haven't it when it is clearly damage to wiring that has damaged modules and we can show the cause

My local dealer scratched body panels and my interior installing factory accessories. Can't get much worse than that.
