  • Advice on buying

    Hi everyone,
I am kind of new to the forum experience. Please let me know if I haven't followed the proper etiquette.
I have the opportunity to buy a Toyota Prado from someone a friend from work. Its a 2010 GXL with 64000km for $33000. Only things stopping me are its petrol and its black. Do you think I would get better value from a ex government white diesel with more kilometres?
    Thanks, Oz

Not everyone reads every question so don't take it personally. This has also been discussed extensively elsewhere.

Hopefully you bought one and are enjoying your purchase.

        Prado 150 Petrol

On Pradopoint there are plenty discussions on this topic. Just search. Here is one on petrol engine:

        http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...=petrol+diesel

I had a Prado 150 GXL Petrol automatic (bought end of 2009 as they were launched) and now I have Prado 150 VX Diesel automatic (2014 model) so I had both engines.

Both are very good engines. Diesel is faster than its KW output on paper suggests and uses less fuel than petrol, but, I have to say petrol V6 was much more fun to drive and for the around 3 litres of extra fuel consumption per 100km the experience was worth the extra fuel consumption.

Both engines have their benefits vs. how you plan to use the vehicle. Read posts on this forum.

From my point of view Petrol was fun to drive, very reliable (never a problem), better city car for short trips, and I enjoyed owning it. Diesel gives me now longer range but no cost savings if I factor in likely maintenance costs over several years. Off road both are good.

The other non engine finding which I have is how much better is the Prado VX vs. Prado GXL. KDSS is great and it is not the only reason which makes it a better car. VX is worth it if you can find the extra $.
