I'm ok with a strong resale value, I guess my issue is more around the discrepancy between currently advertised vehicle prices and the reported sale values via redbook. The differences can be 10% or even a lot higher...

I had noticed that the second hand market seems to be up a bit recently as well. Getting notifications each day for Prado's on gumtree, and they all seem to be asking more now than they were last year for some reason.

The 4.2 pootrol a are fetching great coin as Datsun stopped making 6 cylinders.
Same goes for the 4.2 cruiser. We are looking for a 2007 100 series and need to rob a bank.

A mate of mine has one with all the fruit in excellent condition
We were stopped on the side of the road for a feed and this bloke stopped and walked up and offered $$$$
He was serious, and gave the mate his number in case he decided to sell it.
The offer was more than he paid for it new.

Just out of interest, what sort of driveway prices have any of you new buyers seen or paid for KDJ150R GXL's?

$58,500 for a manual in silver, had it ready for pick up in just over a week, drive away with floor mats and full tanks. Should be cheaper now though, with the free trade agreement with Japan. I would expect to buy a auto for this now.

Thanks AA, seem incredible that there are plenty of 2-3 year old cars asking this price or more...

Hi if I order a Prado today, would it be 2015 year of manufacture or 2014? Was offered a 150 GXL diesel automatic in stock at 60k.

I recently sold my Prado for a bit under $50K. 2010 GXL auto D4D with a fair bit of extras. I was initially asking for $52K but didn't get any bites. I was pretty sure it was either because:

                      a) It was around Christmas when I posted it and people just didn't have the dough (or weren't in town....)

                      b) It has a fair bit of mods on it and may have scared some people off... Funny given the Prado has had a pretty easy life with no hardcore off roading.

                      c) Because of the accessories list - it was targeting a niche market.

It was annoying as I saw that the ad was getting a couple hundred hits every week. I dropped the price to a tad under $50K and that's when I started getting calls. Though, it could be because it was around Jan when people came back from holidays.

In the end all the buyers who were interested wanted to take the rig across the desert (gutted because I never got to do that with it). New buyer is very happy with the rig and has promised to email through a few pics of it when he takes it across the desert with his family.

I bought a 2013 GXL auto last Jun. 22k on the clock, $50k. There's some good deals out there if you want to wait. And it wasn't white (or black or charcoal)

I paid $29,000 for a 2010 GX with 85,000kms in brand new condition. It was a EMQ car which had sat in there shed most of the time and did some local runs when there was an cyclone or emergnecy up here! Full Toyota service history

                              I think I got a good deal?

Sorry I just don't get some of the silly prices being asked for second hand cars ( the Toyota tax) but obviously someone pays them or they wouldn't be advertised in the first place. To me a brand new $60k Prado is just a $50k Prado with $10k of GST / stamp duty and dealer delivery (in round dollars). I know everyones circumstances are different but I would buy the new car any day of the week over a used one for a few bucks less, they are really only worth the $50k new, and even that is questionable.
