  • High K's For a 120 V6

Apologies in advance if this has (most likely) been covered before, but I can't find anything relevant using search.

I'm looking at getting a Prado and joining this community of fine gentlemen(and gentleladies) & looking at something in the 120 series for around the $20k-ish mark.

I really wanted a Diesel with reasonable K's, but they either go too quickly or want ridiculous amounts for cash for something with 300+ K's.

So I have found a few 4.0l versions in around the 160 - 190,000k mark which look the goods.
But my background has always been in V8 sedans so I know pretty much nothing about Toyota engines.

Question is, whats high for a V6 prado? As I want hassle free off-roading for a few years to come at least.
And while im here, whats high for the diesel? Should I still be considering 250k + or is this getting high-ish if I want to keep it for a few years?

Thankyou very much in advance for your time!

I'd say high would be around 700,000k mark. Those petrol's, if looked after a great engines.

250 000 ks is nothing for a Toyota v6 . If your used to V8s you ain't gonna like the diesel . The V6 is a problem free engine the diesel is not .
03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

Really? I was always under the impression that a diesel is more reliable than a petrol motor! Well there you go.

So the diesel is more sought after for towing I gather? I'm not intending on towing anything.

It's mainly the injectors and blocked EGRs that cause problems with the Prado diesels, don't hear too much about the V6 having big problems. I've owned 2 V6 Prados now, no engine trouble with either just a water pump and radiator on the old 90 series.

Yes, they have more low-down torque apparently.
